It’s happened. Something has outsold the Harry Potter series on Amazon. And that something is Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series.
Heck, even Bill Gates liked it.
Amazon announced today that the three-book Hunger Games series following hero Katniss Everdeen’s adventures of survival and derring-do have outsold the seven-book Potter series that followed those lovable wizards at Hogwarts. The Hunger Games sales include both print and Kindle sales.
“Interestingly, this series is only three books versus Harry Potter’s seven, and to achieve this result in just four years is a great testament to both the popularity of the work and, we think, the growth in reading digitally during that time,” says Sara Nelson, editorial director of books and Kindle at Amazon.
Interestingly, Hunger Games is not the first to kick Harry’s butt. The awfulness that is the 50 Shades of Grey series has already outsold Potter in the UK, according to Amazon UK.
Behind in your reading? Both series are available at Amazon for Kindle owners with a Prime membership to borrow for free in the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.
Additionally, The Hunger Games movie is out on DVD, etc., tomorrow. All customers who pre-order the DVD, Blu-ray or digital version can watch it instantly on Amazon Instant Video starting shortly after midnight.

I hope HP remains supreme overall, but it seems that it's finally been surpassed on a platform such as Amazon, and even the 50 Shades series has outsold it in the UK. That's just.... -_-

It's simple. Hunger Games appeals to an even wider, even more mainstream audience. More adults decided they would take it more seriously than they would HP.

I think it's a shame, and though I like THG, I could name many other more "worthy" books, but that's not what this is based on

I prefer this to over 50 shades of shit outselling HP.

Loll 50 shades of grey outsold potter PAPEBACKS in Britain. Just paperbacks, and paperbacks for Potter didn't release until well after the hardcover, so that's already a shit record :p

I feel like the majority of HP fans bought their books in bookstores, and the majority of THG bought them online. Mostly because THG wasn't as big when it first came out, and people are just starting to get into them. So, they go online and buy the trilogy set. That's why it's amazon sales are higher.

I hated the last two books too. Sometimes I wish I didn't read Mockingjay. I like The Maze Runner trilogy better.

Whatever. This doesn't affect me at all, nor does it make me like Potter any less.

Articles like mislead the fuck out of people.

Kindles got hot AFTER Deathly Hallows, and Hunger Games has gotten popular all of a sudden and the two councide. Why the fuck would you want the E-Potters when half the world owns them on paper?

In total BOOK sales all three Hunger Games combined haven't even matched PHILOSOPHERS STONE in sales... And never will. Much less the other 7 lolololololol

Never? Bold. Never's a long time. Still, you're probably right. It'll be a real titan of literary popularity that topples HP. I think Suzanne Collins gets to feel a tiny bit proud of THG books, though. She sure as hell can't feel proud of the movie...

Harry Potter's better than The Hunger Games.
(Though I have only read HG, I haven't seen the films)

It's a sad day when a book about children killing each other outsells Harry Potter... :(

THIS. It's the same thing all of the articles are doing about the Gringotts ride at Universal; making it look like there is going to be a new film when it is just an interactive ride at a theme park.
